Be Prepared for your Wine Drinkers

The majority of the population enjoy a glass of wine especially with a meal or when out in a social environment. Some people’s knowledge is limited to red or white, others understand certain flavours and regions from where the grapes are grown, whilst a certain few experts will have an unlimited knowledge that matches that of any sommeliers or connoisseurs. Whatever category your guests fall into there are some essential pieces of kit that are vital to enable you to offer a full service.

  • Wine coolers are critical to keep your white wines and your rose’s chilled. Essentially a wine cooler is a piece of refrigeration equipment that has been specially designed for holding bottles of wine. Your wine cooler should be capable of maintaining temperatures of between 10C/50F to 13C/55F, which is believed to be ideal for storing your wine stock.
  • Bottle stoppers are used to keep your wines fresh once they have been opened. Available as a standard stopper or as a vacuum stopper; the latter providing a more preferable option as it increases the longevity of the storing time period.
  • Corkscrews are a must have item. If you can’t get into your wine how can you serve it? Purchasing a quality corkscrew will reduce the risk of bar staff ‘corking’ the wine and forcing the cork down through the neck of the bottle and into the contents. This will affect the taste and the quality.
  • Glass racks are needed to safely store your wine glasses between uses. Hanging options provide the perfect way to store glasses upside down to allow for any excess moisture from the washing process to drain away.
  • White wine glasses are obviously needed when serving white wine. These glasses are narrower than red wine glasses and have a smaller mouth ensuring that the tastes and aromas are kept within the glass and the consumer receives the full flavours. White wine glasses will usually have longer stems to reduce the contact with the consumer’s hands therefore reducing heat transference to the chilled wine.
  • Red wine glasses can either be stemmed or be bought without depending on your personal choice. The bowl of the glass will usually be fuller and rounder to enable the flavours and aromas to combine and be released making the tastes richer to the palate.
  • Champagne glasses will normally be stemmed with a slightly fluted appearance.

If you wish to make an impression on your guests and serve their chosen wine to exhibit its full flavour, investing in the correct and appropriate equipment is vital.
